Berta A. Daniels ( b.1965, Boston, Massachusetts, USA)

Biography
Berta A. Daniels photography and ceramic sculpture deal with dismantling mainstream society’s objectification of the human body, and cookie-cutter ideas about beauty, sexuality, and body image. Her photographs explore the figure in the landscape, encouraging her subjects to open themselves to personal transformation through acute connection with the land. Her ceramic sculpture or “Goddess Pots” depict women’s bodies, and how the treatment of women mirrors the conduct of society towards the living earth. As a member of the LGBTQ community, she understands the importance of inclusion and seeing positive representations of ourselves. She believes that in connecting with nature we can begin to heal a fragmented existence, caused by our society’s isolation from a greater whole living universe, and each other. Her work seeks to empower both the subject and the viewer through its representation of all kinds of bodies. In September of 2017, she self-published her first monograph of photography, titled “Crossroads” with help and encouragement from Joyce Tenneson.
